Tarot
Decks
Janene
"reads" with a traditional tarot deck of seventy-eight
cards. Her Book, Modern Day Tarot, specifically teaches
using seventy-eight cards. There are many decks on the
market these days and many more being produced even as this
article is being written. It shouldn't be too difficult
for a new reader to find a Tarot Deck that is both appealing
artistically to the reader and feels right in his/her
hands. For those readers so inclined there are even Tarot
Card kits available for drawing or painting their own
cards. These blank cards are great for collage as
well. In this day and age of computer graphics, designing
tarot cards becomes even easier on the computer.
Throughout this web site are featured cards from Janene's
personal collection of Tarot Decks. Most of the Tarot
Decks represented will be available through U.S.
Games Systems, Inc.
The
traditional seventy-eight card Tarot Deck is split into two
major divisions, the Major Arcana and the
Minor Arcana.
The Major Arcana consists of twenty-two cards numbered from zero
to twenty-one. These are the trump cards in our lives that
represent the journey of life itself. These trumps point
out the milestones we pass, the seasons of life we go through,
'the stuff we are made of', the traps we can fall into that take
us off our life path or purpose, and the major issues of who and
what we are beyond our mere existence and survival.
The fifty-six Minor Arcana Cards refer to the 'day in, day out'
ups and downs of life. They offer advice and wisdom for
our everyday endeavors. The Minor Arcana are divided into
four suits called Pentacles, Cups, Swords and Wands. These
suits correspond to the four planes of the Self: physical,
emotional, mental and spiritual. They encompass all areas
of our lives.
Together the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana make up our
lives. Based on the energies surrounding us they offer
wisdom and advice for both short-term and long-term. Our
lives can be seen as a motion picture or drama unfolding in the
cards. It is now up to us to learn the language and
understand and interpret correctly.
